THE PROBLEM STAMP 1

 

 

This stamp is not attractive, but it provides a good exercise. At first look, we see a stamp of the first engraving: The ‘6’ adheres massively to the frame, and the border of the escutcheon is almost solid. However, the dots below the right leg are separated, and at the same height. Most dots although somewhat worn, are of the ‘lying lozenge shape’ ( ~ ) which we associate with the second engraving (Fig. 4). The diagonal between dots from upper right to lower left seems to prevail. What is going on?
